Creating effective learning experiences requires a deep understanding of the learners themselves. That's where learner persona mapping comes in - they provide a unique perspective of the target audience for a course or program, ensuring our learning designers tailor the learning experience to meet the audience needs, preferences, and goals.


Why complete the program?


We begin mapping the learner persona by examining why learners should take a course or program that is being developed and how it will benefit them. This includes identifying the key pain points that learners may be experiencing and highlighting how the proposed program can help to overcome these challenges.


What is my broader goal?


Next, we look at the individual goals that learners may have in terms of development and career progression. We identify the skills and knowledge that learners need to achieve their goals and consider how the program can support these aspirations. It is important to map the relevant tasks or behaviors that learners complete in their job, to align the course content to be directly applicable to their day-to-day work.


How will you support me best?


When it comes to learning preferences, we recognize that every learner and their individual context is different. A balance between preferences and practical solutions is often required in a corporate setting, for example on-site technicians may require mobile first solutions whereas call-centre staff may have only short windows available, hence requiring microlearning.

It is also important to consider the existing knowledge and skills and skills of the learners in order to tailor the course content to the appropriate level.
